When you set up a store in Shopify, customer account type is one of the most important factors that directly impact the overall customer experience. You can find this setting in Shopify Admin > Settings > Customer accounts.
Currently, Shopify has provided 2 types of customer account types:
New customer account: Customers will log in with a one-time code sent to their email.
Which Shopify customer account type works with BON?
Customer account type is also essential for implementing and managing loyalty programs – which focus on every single customers’ loyalty with your store.
That is why most loyalty apps in Shopify, including BON Loyalty app – only work with the Classic customer account type:
Why only the Classic account type works with BON?
The technical reason is that Shopify only sends to loyalty apps account registration data with the Classic customer account type. Only with this data, BON can:
Detect newly registered customers
Sort your customers into Members and Guests – only Members can redeem points to rewards. (Click here to learn more)
If a store activates the New customer account setting, the customer will need to submit the email only. Every time customers need to log in, they will need a one-time use 6-digit code.
Most loyalty apps in Shopify cannot receive the registration data with the New customer account type.
Therefore their profile will marked as Guest in BON – which equals to customers who don’t have an account:
